Barid al-Yawm (Daily Mail) was a Zionist newspaper in Arabic that came out twice a week. The newspaper dealt with political, literary, social, and agricultural topics. It was the first newspaper to publish advertising costs and accepted ads in all languages. The newspaper attempted to introduce the country’s Arab population to Zionism by arguing that the Zionist movement strives for the development and modernization of the whole country. Barid al-Yawm's approach drew heated criticism in the Arabic press, especially from Najib Nassar’s newspaper El-Carmel. The newspaper's editor, Asher Sapir, was one of the founding members of the company Ha-Solel, which published three newspapers: Doar Ha-Yom (Daily Mail) in Hebrew, which was founded first in 1919; the English Palestine Weekly, also founded in 1919; and Barid al-Yawm founded in 1920. According to David Tidhar, Sapir was deeply engaged in promoting Jewish-Arab understanding and laying the groundwork for reconciliation between the two nations. The Hebrew newspaper Doar Ha-Yom was edited by Itamar ben Avi and his father Eliezer ben Yehuda; later, in 1928, Ben Avi transferred the editorship to his friend Ze'ev Jabotinsky. The Hebrew Doar Hayom was considered the mouthpiece of the Zionist right wing in its early years.
