Description:
Al-'Ahd al-Jadid (The New Contract) was a weekly newspaper of social and cultural criticism that was published in Jaffa and printed at the city's al-Hamra' press. Its two owners were Zuhdi al-Saqqa and Ahmad al-'Aqqad. Muhammad Hasan Suwayd served as editor-in-chief, his secretary was Zuhdi al-Saqqa, and the chief administrator was Muhammad Ya'ish. The first issue was published in May 1929. The newspaper's mission was honest criticism that relied on reason, art, and science, without intruding on others' privacy or beliefs. It criticized art for art's sake and not in the pursuit of ephemeral fame or wealth.
